THE HEART PRINCIPLE ~ HELEN HOANG

“…But I guess that’s how it must be when someone’s standards are so impossibly high and their capacity for empathy so limited. They are cruel to others, and cruelest to themselves.”

Genre ~ Fiction, Romance

Pages ~ 339

Sourced Synopsis ~ When violinist Anna Sun accidently achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces that he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She’s going to embark on a string of on-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better.

That’s where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex—he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she herself has just begun to understand.

However, when tragedy strikes Anna’s family, she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves.

About The Author ~ Helen Hoang is that shy person who never talks. Until she does. And then the worst things fly out of her mouth. She read her first romance novel in eighth grade and has been addicted ever since. In 2016, she was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in line with what was previously known as Asperger’s syndrome. She currently lives in San Diego, California, with her husband, two kids, and a pet fish.

Personal Take ~ The Romance genre is not really my jam but I would pick one up on rare occasions. This particular one kept popping up on my Instagram feed and had good reviews. Then it was offered as a Book of the Month. So, I couldn’t resist.

The beginning was good and it was a fast read. The plot was sort of predictable but it was decent overall. There are plenty of steamy parts so Romance readers will not be disappointed. I did want to scream at her family at some point or the other and smack the boyfriend, but I think that is the reaction the author wanted to begin with.

If you want to dip your toe in Romance, this maybe a good.

It is part of the Kiss Quotient series but can be read as a stand alone which I like a lot.

Let me know if you have read this or planning on reading it!

Happy Reading!
